Dog Behavior

Dogs are great when they are well-behaved, but they can really drive you crazy when they aren’t. Everyone wants their dog to be a good boy. Get the tips you need to help you deal with a rescue or older dog, and fix any unwanted behavior.

Common Dog Behavior Issues

Aggression. The most common behavior problem a dog can have is aggression. They will snarl, bark, and in some cases bite when they are angry.

Barking. If your dog likes to bark, he may be angry, trying to get your attention, bored, or various other reasons. Each bark serves a different function, and it is important for you to figure it out before seeking professional help.

Howling. Similar to barking, your dog may howl for different reasons.

Whining. Dogs will whine for numerous reasons, but the cause is not always so easily to figure out.

Food Guarding. Your dog doesn’t want anybody to touch their food, and their reaction to it can be timid or highly aggressive.

Chewing. There’s nothing wrong with a dog that likes to chew, but you need to make sure he’s chewing the right things and not your furniture.

Mounting. If you haven’t spayed or neutered your dog, then they will have strong urges to mount and hump and you must take steps to prevent this from happening.

Separation Anxiety. If you leave your dog alone for long periods of time, they may feel scared or restless and can destroy your property. Learn how to alleviate their fears.

Nipping and Biting. Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog, sometimes a curious dog will end up snagging things with his teeth and cause injuries regardless. Instead, you can help your dog be gentler.
