Dogs you buy from the pet store have RANDOM stats, no known ancestors, and cost $1,000 DP each. If you buy a dog from somebody else on this site you know what your dogs stats will be, it probably has at least 1 generation of known ancestors, and are usually a heck of a lot less than $1,000. This is a much better way to start out! So search the site, and check the dog ad board, and only buy from the pet store if nobody is selling what you want.
